2 For 1 would like to introduce you to some very "Special People" in our lives. As you know the group is a very active participant in the Annual Mighty Moo Festival held in Cowpens, South Carolina each year. To give you some history about this festival, it honors the men and women that have served and are currently serving aboard both ships which have carried the name USS Cowpens. When the festival started over 30 years ago the men that served aboard the first USS Cowpens the CVL 25, were the only ones being honored. At that time the new USS Cowpens, the CG 63, was not yet built. At any rate, the leaders of the festival thought it to be a nice gesture if they gave these crewmen and their families "Adoptive Parents" when they returned to Cowpens annually for the festival. These parents were townspeople of Cowpens that would see to it, that their crewman and his family was treated well and try to meet their every need while in town for this week long event. Eventually, the idea arose about having an Adopt A Crew Dinner each Friday night of the festival. This dinner has became such a big hit, that now not only is it a dinner, but it is kind of like Christmas in July. The crewman, his family and his Adoptive Parents exchange gifts, have a meal, and enjoy the company of hundreds of other crewmen, their families, and their Adoptive Parents. Well just three short years ago a new crewman, that never knew the festival took place, learned of the festival through a magazine article. His name is Jack Daniel, now he is in no way related to the alcohol maker, although it sometimes is a point of poking a little fun. Jack and his wife Wanda needed a set of Adoptive Parents. With the regular participation of 2 For 1 in the annual festival, the committee asked Steve and Eddie if they were interested in taking on the couple as their Adoptive Parents. 2 For 1 could not resist and now have made some lifelong friends. Each year Jack and Wanda return from Dallas, Texas to share in fun and fellowship with Eddie, Steve, and their families. They have truly became near and dear to the hearts of the 2 For 1 family. These are two excellent Christian people. Below you will find some history on Jack and Wanda, their family, and his time onboard the USS Cowpens CVL 25.
